Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul

Last week we had a mini shopping session at Sephora to replace some products that we were running out of. As usual, we ended up getting this too! and this! oh, and this as well and like always we couldn’t find the only product that was actually on our list. So we refocused. Read all about it in our Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul below.

DIORSKIN FOREVER FOUNDATION DIOR

Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul

Noutati de la Sephora

For approximately one year I’ve been using the Too Faced Born This Way foundation and it’s absolutely phenomenal because it has a medium but buildable coverage, depending on the quantity used, but most importantly, it’s phenomenal because it doesn’t look heavy on your skin so you can’t see from three miles away that you’re using foundation.

This was the product I wanted to purchase now, but in a darker shade given that it’s summer. I used Natural Beige and wanted to move on to Sand. I tested it on my hand, then on my face, and it was perfect. But of course, the inevitable happened and the product was out of stock 🙂

I had two options: to be notified by phone when Sand gets back in stock or to refocus on another foundation. And of course, we chose the latter because I have no patience and if I need a foundation, then I’m gonna get one.

So I started testing whatever I could from Sephora. I liked Chanel because it was super creamy, but it didn’t have a lot of coverage, being designed for smoothness and illumination. Then I tried Make-Up Forever which looked generous in terms of coverage but I wasn’t sure about their shades and I was too afraid I’d screw it up. I skipped Estee Lauder because I already have the Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup and it’s heavy coverage type stuff. It conceals everything with the first layer, and with the second it covers you whole. It worked for me for a while, but then it became harder to blend on the skin. I still use it at events where I know the foundation has to last (because it lasts very long, I can barely remove it) and because during the evening it’s easier to wear full coverage makeup.

And then I came face to face with Dior. Most of all I liked its consistency – liquid but sufficiently dense, and that’s what ultimately made me decide, but also the strength of the coverage. I got the DiorSkin Forever in 031 Sand, after 15 minutes of back and forth between 030 Medium Beige and 031 Sand. There wasn’t a big difference between them, just that Sand has a warmer undertone (yellow) and Medium Beige a cooler undertone (pink). And since I wanted a darker shade, I preferred Sand. And it turns it was the right choice!

I used it a few nights ago and I’m very pleased with the choice I made. The shade is a perfect match, the coverage is really good with only one layer, it smooths out the skin very well and it’s not heavy on the skin. It’s helpful to mention that one small pump is enough to cover the entire face. I didn’t even use translucent powder afterward because I didn’t feel the need. One of its main qualities is that it mattifies the skin but the skin remains luminous which makes for a very natural effect. They say it lasts 16h but I can’t confirm nor deny because I’ve only worn it for about 3 hours after which I took it off.

In conclusion, I made the right choice, I’m not sorry that I couldn’t find Too Faced and I’m excited to see DiorSkin at work from now on!

STEP 1 PRIMER MAKE UP FOR EVER

Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul

Noutati de la Sephora

This primer was on my list because I had finished it a while back but it wasn’t a necessity, I can do my makeup very well without. But since we were there and spotted this one from Make Up For Ever Step 1 Primer Skin Equalizer I decided to give it a try. Step 1 comes in different versions, depending on what you’re looking for. The first is mattifying, and it’s really good if you have oily skin. The second and the one I chose is for natural finish, for smoothing, polishing and leveling the skin. They also have two for hydration, one for redness and a Radiant line in different shades depending on complexion – warm or cold. The one I chose has a BBCream consistency and a beige color.

I used it before applying DiorSkin Forever foundation, after moisturizer. I have dry skin and sometimes foundation packs up in certain areas of the face or I get flaky skin, no matter how well I exfoliate. Because I used this primer, as well as the new foundation only once until now, I can’t tell for sure if it was the primer but I know for certain that my skin was super soft and smooth and all my make up layered up flawlessly.

CHARCOAL NOSE STRIP SEPHORA

Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul

Noutati de la Sephora

This Charcoal Nose Strip is one of Sephora’s newest products. We already had all we needed so we started looking through the store. Someone recommended these new Sephora masks telling us of the sale – buy 3, pay 2. There wasn’t really need for discussion, we are that naive at Sephora, so we got three of them.

We tried them the same day and we really liked them. Now we want to make the famous nose strips with active charcoal for blackheads since they really seem to work. The strip applies on the damp skin of the nose, massaging a few seconds to ensures it adheres well. Then you leave it on for 15 minutes to do its trick. You can definitely see cleaner pores, and blackheads and other residue adhered to the strip. We recommend it and can’t wait to share our homemade masks with activated charcoal.

KONJAC SKINCARE PURIFYING SPONGE SEPHORA

Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul

Noutati de la Sephora

If it says it’s Hot in Korea, why not give it a shot. This skincare purifying sponge is 100% natural, made from konjac root, a plant in Asia. It cleans the pores and exfoliates without creating discomfort. It eliminates makeup if used especially with micellar water and removes dead cells.

That’s what the product is supposed to do. In reality, it’s a very hard ball that softens in contact with water, lotion or micellar water. And it’s nothing more than a sponge. It has no special effect compared to a normal sponge. It’s not even abrasive enough to exfoliate well. So we found nothing accurate in that description. Only that it’s natural. If you really want to wash your face with a sponge, that’s fine, but with this one, you won’t have any of the results described, nor exfoliation. It was worth a try.

PANDA’S DREAM SO COOL EYE STICK TONY MOLY

Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul

Noutati de la Sephora

Panda’s Dream So Cool Eye Stick from Tony Moly is a cooling and de-puffing stick serum for the under-eye area. It targets wrinkles, dark circles, and under-eye bags. Hydrates and refreshes. It contains bamboo extract, hence the name Panda’s Dream 🙂 It applies from the inner corner to the outward corner and you gently smooth it with your finger or brush for better absorption. Our thought was it looks so cute that it doesn’t matter what it does, it’s nice to have it. But it is quite good. It gives you an instant cooling sensation, especially if you wake up with puffy eyes, one that lasts for about a minute. It also hydrates, but without being oily and absorbs really well into the skin. We like it! We like the packaging and the reinvigorating and hydrating feeling. That’s exactly how we’d describe the effect.

KA-BROW CREAM-GEL BENEFIT

Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul

Noutati de la Sephora

Brows are very important when it comes to makeup. Just like a disaster brow can ruin a beautiful appearance, so can  groomed brows beautifully improve the shape of any face. Before this product, we used Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil from Hourglass. It was the best. But because we can’t find it in Romania, we had to adapt.

We got the Benefit Ka-Brow Cream-Gel from Sephora, a cream-gel with gradual coverage that is accompanied with a mini brush. We are not loving this one. It’s difficult to pick the product up and apply it on the brow, meaning that you have to work a bit to pick up enough product on the brush. And the brush that comes with it is not very useful, it’s very thin and it’s difficult to obtain a well-defined brow with it. We used Sedona Lace brushes, you can read here what we chose for brow sculpting and definition.

It’s worth mentioning that Ka-Brow has an extensive collection of shades, so it’s easy to find yours. There’s 6 options, from light to deep, all natural, nothing too exaggerated.

Finally, we chose to continue using this product because we just purchased it, but we will return to Hourglass the first chance we get.

THEY’RE REAL! MASCARA BENEFIT

Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul

Noutati de la Sephora

We were gifted the Benefit They’re Real! mascara from Sephora so we gave it a try. It says it offers spectacular eyelashes, lengthening, curling, volumizing, lifting and separating your lashes. The glossy formula does not smudge, transfer or dry out.

Hmm. We experienced nothing from that description. First, it transfers on the eyelid, something that hasn’t happened to us a while with any mascara. It’s difficult to take off, although it’s not waterproof. And for the way it transforms your lashes, it’s just not what we’re looking for in a mascara. It makes eyelashes stick together, there’s no volume, maybe just a bit of length.

Our favorite mascaras are Hypnose Drama from Lancome and Better Than Sex from Too Faced. Some of the best we’ve ever used. We prefer mascaras with brushes made of fiber or hair, not plastic. And these have very dense brushes that actually confer volume and make your eyes wow. Especially the Lancome one, which does not make your lashes look like little spiders, even after 2-3 layers. Better Than Sex is a bit more difficult, one layer is enough. But if it’s evening makeup and you can afford to insist on intensity, you should keep in mind that it will be visible.

We like the products we purchase to actually walk the talk, and show the promised results. The Benefit They’re Real! mascara was not good enough to be purchased in the future, we’ll stick to our usuals.

ROLLER LASH MASCARA BENEFIT

Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul

Noutati de la Sephora

This Benefit Roller Lash is another product we left Sephora with. We mentioned above what we look for in a mascara and this is not on our favorites list. The brush is made of plastic, the eyelashes look spidery and the volume is missing entirely. We only used it once, and after applying it we had to use another mascara to detangle because they were sticking together. It does, however, offer length. But we wouldn’t introduce it in our daily makeup routine.

So this is how our little Sephora Makeup & Skincare Haul shopping session looked like. We left Sephora with products we didn’t need but turned out to be good and we found a new favorite foundation.
