Turmeric Face Mask

Turmeric is a popular spice in Asia, with uses ranging from culinary recipes to ritual preparation of brides in India. Lately it has become famous as a Turmeric Face Mask in beauty circles due to its skin properties, and so it reached us..

BENEFITS Turmeric Face Mask

Turmeric is a natural antiseptic with many benefits for the immune system. Used as a face mask in different combinations also brings amazing results.Masca de Fata cu Turmeric

Because turmeric contains curcumin and other active ingredients beneficial for skin, it reduces redness, helps fight acne
and minimizes dark circles. It also gets rid of excess facial hair if it’s used regularly and with certain ingredients.

We tried it first of all because its at the rage and we wanted to check it out and see what the buzz was about, but also because we are in need of some of its benefits, if not all.

There are different ingredients that can be combined with turmeric in creating a face mask, depending on the problem you want to tackle or the needs of your skin.

We chose to prepare it as follows, given that, occasionally, we have a little of everything: dark circles, redness, annoying pimples or blackheads, ‘fluffy’ face hair – no one’s perfect!

However, if you are among those with perfect skin and only need to tackle one problem – we are a bit jealous, you see? – we wrote a few combinations below, especially for your needs, you lucky one.

For our recipe we used:
1 spoon Turmeric
1 spoon Wheat Flour
1 spoon Honey (we had acacia honey)
1 spoon Plain Yogurt
1 spoon Milk
1/2 teaspoon Coconut Oil

Add the ingredients together in a small bowl and mix with a spoon. Make sure you don’t use an expensive bowl or better yet, use a disposable because the turmeric stains everything in its path and will color everything yellow, instantly. We prepared it in a disposable to-go coffee cup and mixed with a wooden spoon. IMG_6157

The consistency needs to be thick enough to not fall off the skin for the same reason – it will stain.

APPLICATION Turmeric Face Mask

We recommend exfoliating the skin before applying the mask for a full effect. The mask can be applied with a makeup brush, avoiding the eyebrows because, as we said before, it can remove excess hair. Highly unlikely you’ll have an issue for the first application, but you know.. you can’t mess with the brows.

Wait 20 minutes, in during which the mask will dry and harden. Remove it with warm water, carefully so you don’t stain the sink. Your skin will have a little yellow tint after washing it off, but you can remove it using a cleanser or anything else you usually use to cleanse your face.

RESULTS Turmeric Face Mask

When choosing the ingredients for our recipe, we kept in mind that that we needed:

  • turmeric for all its benefits, discussed above;
  • wheat flour, because we didn’t have chickpea flour ? (but also because it closes dilated pores, so it still served a purpose)
  • acacia honey to hydrate, cleanse and add glow;
  • yogurt & milk because they treat acne, hydrate dry skin, but also because it removes some of the yellow from the turmeric;
  • and coconut oil for soothing, toning, hydrating and the rest of the wonders coconut oil is responsible for.

Afterwards we felt our skin extremely clean, soft, even and incredibly happy! The long-term results weren’t spectacular, but we’ve only used it two times. Our complexion had a little yellow tint, but we always used the mask in the evening so next day, after a cleanse in the evening and one in the morning, it was gone.

COMBINATIONS Turmeric Face Mask

As we said before, depending on the skin issue you want to tackle, you can choose different combinations of ingredients.

So, to get rid of facial hair, use the following recipe:
2 spoons Chickpea Flour
1 spoon Turmeric
Almond Oil until you reach the desired consistency

To fight acne:
½ cup Lemon Juice
1 spoon Turmeric
Water until you reach the desired consistency

For even skin:
1 spoon Turmeric
1 spoon Milk

We have only discovered the skin properties of this spice a short while ago, but we will definitely try the other combination as well, we think it’s worth it!
